Tropical depression may enter PAR Thursday, to be named Queenie

A tropical depression could intensify into a tropical storm and may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday, according to PAGASA on Wednesday.

The weather disturbance will be named Queenie once it enters the PAR on Thursday morning or afternoon, according to a report on Unang Balita.

The tropical depression was located more than 1,000 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon.

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 70 kph.

The tropical depression was moving northwestward at 25 kph.

Before getting close to Extreme Northern Luzon, the tropical cyclone is expected to turn north and exit the PAR.

Its trough is already bringing rains over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao Oriental, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin.

In its weather forecast, PAGASA said the trough of tropical depression outside the PAR will bring rains over the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao on Wednesday.

PAGASA said Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao Oriental, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of the tropical depression.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
