State weather bureau PAGASA said Super Typhoon Champi is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday morning or afternoon.

Once inside PAR, it will be given the local name Rosal, PAGASA said, according to a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday.

PAGASA also said it may possibly raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals and a gale warning over some areas on Tuesday due to the threat of Champi.

The trough or extension of Champi will affect Catanduanes, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.

As of last available data, Champi was located at 1,605 km east of Central Luzon, with maximum winds of 195 kph and gustiness of 240 kph.

Champi was moving west northwest at 20 kph.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Sunday that it has been preparing for the expected entry of Champi into PAR this week.

In a news release, the DSWD said that as of 6 a.m. Sunday, there were 4,571,390 family food packs prepositioned in its relief warehouses nationwide.

A total of 344,942 non-food items and 204,745 ready-to-eat food packs were also in stock.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is expected to bring scattered rains over Palawan while the easterlies will affect extreme Northern Luzon, PAGASA said. —KG, GMA News
