Orange rainfall warning up over 5 areas in Mindanao
PAGASA raised the orange rainfall warning over parts of Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur, as well as South Cotabato, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley on Tuesday morning.
In particular, the rainfall warning was raised over Carrascal, Tagbina, and Barobo in Surigao del Sur, and Rosario in Agusan del Sur, PAGASA said in its 8 a.m. press briefing.
The rainfall warning was hoisted at 8 a.m.
With the orange rainfall warning, 15-30 mm of intense rain will fall in an hour and expected to continue in the next two hours.
PAGASA warned of flooding threatening low-lying areas and along river channels, and landslides in mountainous areas.
Meanwhile, the yellow warning level has been raised over Surigao del Norte, Bukidnon, the rest of Agusan del Sur, the rest of Surigao del Sur, Davao City, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, the eastern portion of North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and Maguindanao.
These areas will have moderate to heavy rains from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m, PAGASA said in its 8 a.m. press briefing.
Residents in the above areas were advised to take precautions as flooding is possible in low-lying areas and along river channels.
PAGASA said landslides may also occur in mountainous reas.
Light to moderate rains, meanwhile, are pouring as of posting time over Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Davao Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Basilan, Sulu, and nearby areas.
PAGASA advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned to take the appropriate precautions.
Tropical Depression Chedeng made landfall on Tuesday morning over Malita, Davao Occidental and weakened into a low pressure area.
PAGASA said scattered to at times widespread moderate to heavy rains will be experienced on Tuesday over most of Mindanao, particularly Surigao del Sur, Davao region, SOCCSKARGEN, Bangsamoro, Agusan del Sur, portions of Mindanao, and the Zamboanga Peninsula. —KG, GMA News
