‘Init’ factor hits record-high 57.6°C in Aparri
A record-high 57.6°C heat index or "init factor" was recorded in Aparri, Cagayan on Tuesday afternoon, according to PAGASA.
The heat index in the town peaked at 2 p.m.
This breaks the highest "init factor" that was felt in the country this year. A 51.7°C heat index was previously recorded in Dagupan City, Pangasinan on April 14, 2019.
Meanwhile, Dagupan City also recorded the second highest "init factor" on Tuesday at 50.4°C; followed by Casiguran, Aurora with 49.2°C "init factor."
Heat index or "init factor" was defined by the state weather bureau as the "human discomfort index that gives the apparent temperature or what human perceive or feel as the temperature affecting their body."
PAGASA warned that heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely once the heat index reaches 41°C to 54°C.
Heat stroke is imminent once the "init factor" reaches 54°C or higher, it added. —Dona Magsino/NB, GMA News
