The trough of tropical depression Liwayway is expected to bring rain to some parts of the country, according to PAGASA on Sunday.

In its 4 p.m. weather forecast, the state weather bureau said that the Bicol Region, Central and Eastern Visayas, and Caraga may experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms until Monday.

At 3 p.m., Liwayway was spotted 460 kilometers east northeast of Maasin City, Southern Leyte or 350 km East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

It is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph.

Liwayway is moving northwest at 20 kph. PAGASA said that it may intensify on Wednesday, but it is not expected to make landfall.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain to Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.

PAGASA warned that sea travel is risky in the northern seaboard of Luzon and western seaboard of northern and Central Luzon due to potentially rough waves brought about by Habagat.

The rest of the country, on the other hand, may experience isolated rain due to localized thunderstorms. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
