Onyok to bring rains to Cagayan Valley, Bicol; Signal No. 1 up over Batanes, Babuyan
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remained raised over Batanes and Babuyan Islands on Sunday as Severe Tropical Storm Onyok (international name: Mitag) intensified slightly, PAGASA said.
These areas will experience winds of 30 to 60 kph, which may cause slight damage to houses made of very light materials.
Cagayan Valley and Bicol Region meanwhile will have scattered light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms until Monday morning due to Onyok's trough or extension.
Onyok however is less likely to make landfall and may be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility as early as Monday afternoon.
Sea conditions will be potentially rough in the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon as well as the seaboards of Batanes and Babuyan Islands, making travel for small seacraft risky.
As of 10 a.m., the eye or center of Onyok was located at 500 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan or 530 km east of Calayan, Cagayan.
It intensified slightly and has maximum sustained winds of up to 100 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 125 kph.
Onyok is moving northwest at a speed of 15 kph.
PAGASA advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned to take the necessary precautions and monitor the next severe weather bulletin to be issued at 5 p.m. —KG, GMA News
