Habagat to bring rains over Luzon, parts of Visayas, Mindanao; Dindo won't make landfall
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, western and central Visayas, northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula and BARMM will have occasional rains due to the southwest monsoon (habagat), PAGASA reported early Saturday morning.
The bureau also reported that flash floods or landslides may occur in these areas due to moderate to occasional heavy rains.
The rest of the country will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon. Flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.
The southwest monsoon is being drawn by a tropical depression located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
As of 4 a.m. on Saturday, the said tropical depression is moving west northwest at 15 kph toward Hainan and Vietnam. It has maximum winds of 55 kph and gusts of up to 70 kph.
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Dindo which is located inside PAR was located at 3 a.m. at 805 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. It is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.
Dindo is moving north northwestward at 15 km/h and is not expected to make landfall or make a direct impact on the country.
Between August 3 and 4, Dindo is expected to exit PAR.
The wind speed forecast for the northern and western section of Luzon is strong and moving in the southwest to southeast direction as coastal waters will be rough to very rough.
For the Visayas, the rest of Luzon and the Zamboanga Peninsula, winds will be moderate to strong moving in the southwest to south direction. Coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
The rest of Mindanao will have a slight to moderate winds moving in the northeast to north direction as coastal waters will remain slight to moderate.
