25 areas under Signal 1 as Auring stationary, maintains strength


Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 was raised over 25 areas as Tropical Storm Auring maintained its strength and remained almost stationary, PAGASA reported late Friday evening.

In its 11 p.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA said the following areas were under Signal 1 and would experience strong to gale-force winds:

  • Eastern Samar
  • Samar
  • Biliran
  • Leyte
  • Southern Leyte
  • Cebu
  • Negros Oriental
  • Bohol
  • Siquijor
  • Dinagat Islands
  • Surigao del Norte
  • Surigao del Sur
  • Agusan del Norte
  • Agusan del Sur
  • Davao Oriental
  • Davao de Oro
  • Davao del Norte
  • Davao City
  • Camiguin
  • Misamis Oriental
  • Misamis Occidental
  • Lanao del Norte
  • Bukidnon
  • Lanao del Sur

PAGASA said the rest of the Visayas, Bicol Region, CALABARZON, the Mindoro Provinces, Marinduque, Romblon, and the northern portion of Palawan (including Calamian, Cuyo, and Kalayaan Islands) would also experience strong to gale-force winds.

At 10 p.m. on Friday, Auring was 435 kilometers east-southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.

According to the weather agency, Auring is forecast to make landfall over the eastern coast of the Caraga Region on Sunday morning or afternoon, then cross to Visayas and there MIMAROPA.

Though Auring is likely to remain as a tropical storm during its passage, PAGASA has not ruled out the possibility that it may intensify anew into a severe tropical storm before landfall.

Meanwhile, the highest wind signal that may be raised is TCWS No. 2.

The next severe weather bulletin will be released at 5 a.m. on Saturday.

Hazards affecting land

PAGASA said that light to moderate with, at times, heavy rains will prevail over Caraga, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and Southern Leyte until Saturday.

From Saturday to Sunday morning, heavy to intense rains are expected over Surigao del Norte and the Dinagat Islands while moderate to heavy with, at times, intense rains may prevail over the rest of Caraga, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin.

Light to moderate with, at times, heavy rains are also expected over the Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, the rest of Northern Mindanao, Lanao del Sur, Cotabato, and Davao City.

From Sunday morning to Monday morning, moderate to heavy rains with, at times, intense rains may prevail over the Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, the northern portion of Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and Romblon.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with, at times, heavy rains are expected over the Zamboanga Peninsula, the southern portion of Quezon, Marinduque, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Cotabato City, Cotabato, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao City, and the rest of Bicol Region, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao.

“Under these conditions, scattered to widespread flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are likely during heavy or prolonged rainfall,” PAGASA said.

Hazards affecting coastal waters

According to PAGASA rough to high seas are expected over the seaboards of areas under TCWS No. 1 in the next 24 hours.

The eastern and southern seaboards of Southern Luzon and the remaining seaboards of Visayas are also expected to experience rough to very rough seas.

Rough seas may also prevail over the northern and western seaboards of Mindanao and the remaining seaboards of Luzon.

PAGASA warned against sea travel for all types of vessels.

The remaining seaboards of the country may, meanwhile, experience moderate to rough seas.

“Mariners of small seacrafts are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions,” it said.— DVM/LDF, GMA News
