Red rainfall warning up over Leyte, 5 other areas

PAGASA raised the red rainfall warning over Leyte, Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, and Camotes Island in Cebu on Sunday morning due to the threat of Tropical Storm Agaton.

The red rainfall warning, issued at 8 a.m., means torrential rains measuring more than 30 mm may be observed in one hour and continue in the next two hours.

"Serious flooding is expected in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas," PAGASA said.

The weather bureau meanwhile raised the orange rainfall warning over Bohol and Central Cebu and Northern Cebu.

Intense rain measuring 15-30 mm are expected in one hour and may continue in the next two hours in these areas.

"Flooding is threatening in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas," PAGASA said.

Southern Cebu is under yellow rainfall warning, meaning 7.5 to 15 mm rains are expected in one hour and may continue in the next two hours.

"Flooding is possible in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas," PAGASA said.

In its 8 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 is in effect over the southern portion of Eastern Samar, the southern portion of Samar, and the northeastern portion of Leyte.

TCWS No. 1 meanwhile was raised over the rest of Eastern Samar, the rest of Samar, Northern Samar, Biliran, the rest of Leyte, Southern Leyte, and the northeastern portion of Cebu including Camotes Islands.

The weather bureau advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned to take the appropriate actions, monitor the weather condition, and await the next advisory scheduled to be released at 11 a.m. —KG, GMA News
