PAGASA: Aghon to exit PAR Wednesday afternoon

Typhoon Aghon is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday afternoon.

Typhoon Aghon is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Wednesday afternoon, according to PAGASA.

The local weather bureau said Aghon is "unlikely to directly bring significant amount of rainfall within the next three days."

However, PAGASA said Aghon will influence the Southwesterly Windflow which will cause rains over some parts of Luzon.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said moderate to heavy rains are expected over the western portions of Northern Luzon, Central Luzon and MIMAROPA until Thursday.

Occasional gusty conditions may be experienced in the next three days over Batanes, Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, northern Aurora, southern mainland Quezon, Polillo Islands, Palawan, Lubang Islands, Romblon, Marinduque, and Camarines Norte.

Moderate to rough seas of up to 3.0 meters are possible over the coastal waters of Batanes.

“Mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels,” PAGASA warned.

Aghon was last spotted 1,060 kilometers east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 130 km per hour and gustiness of up to 160 km/h.

It was moving northeastward at 35 km/h.

“On the track forecast, Typhoon AGHON will move generally northeastward over the Philippine Sea for the entirety of the forecast period and exit the PAR this afternoon,” PAGASA said.

Reuters on Tuesday reported seven deaths due to Aghon.

Among the deceased were two men, aged 56 and 22, who drowned, and a 39-year-old man who was hit by a falling tree. Six of the seven reported fatalities are from Quezon province.

A total of 51,659 people or 16,336 were affected by Typhoon Aghon, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) as of Wednesday.

Most of the affected population were reported in CALABARZON with 25,980 and Bicol with 10,476.

Of the affected population, 14,816 people or 3,878 families were staying in evacuation centers while 6,409 families or 1,585 individuals were taking shelter in other places. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
