PAGASA monitors LPA inside of Philippine Area of Responsibility

PAGASA monitors LPA inside of Philippine Area of Responsibility

A low pressure area (LPA) has been monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of Friday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

As of 8 a.m., PAGASA said the LPA has a “medium” chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

The LPA was last spotted 480 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas.

As of 11:37 a.m., PAGASA assistant weather services chief Chris Perez said the LPA was at 425 kilometers east of Borongan, Eastern Samar.

“Bagama't medium ang chance nitong maging bagyo in the next 3 to 5 days ay patuloy itong inaasahan natin na makakaapekto pa rin sa ilang bahagi nga ng ating bansa, partikular na sa ilang lalawigan dito sa Southern Luzon at Eastern Visayas area,” Perez said in a Balitanghali interview.

(Despite the LPA having a medium chance of becoming a typhoon in the next 3 to 5 days, we still expect it to affect some parts of our country, particularly in some provinces in the Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas area.)

Should the LPA become a tropical cyclone, it will be called “Auring” and will be the first tropical cyclone in the country this 2025.

PAGASA said that the LPA may also enhance the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.

“Ang nakikita nating scenario kung maging bagyo ito ay halos parang magiging Bagyong Carina ang pagkilos nito. May tsansa na hindi mag-landfall sa ating bansa subalit 'yun nga, pag-iibayuhin 'yung habagat na siyang posibleng magdulot ng pag-ulan sa mga ilang lugar sa kanlurang bahagi ng Luzon at ng Visayas, including Metro Manila na 'yan,” Perez added.

(If this becomes a tropical cyclone, it will be like Typhoon Carina. It’s possible that it wouldn’t make a landfall, but it will enhance the southwest monsoon that may bring rains in the parts of Luzon and Visayas, including Metro Manila.)

On Monday, PAGASA announced the beginning of the rainy season in the country. — Giselle Ombay/RSJ/AOL, GMA Integrated News
