LPA to bring scattered rains, thunderstorms across PH

A low pressure area (LPA) off Eastern Samar is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms across large parts of the country within the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Monday.

As of 3 p.m., the LPA was estimated at 290 kilometers northeast of Maasin City, Southern Leyte, or 130 km east northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon continues to affect the western section of Southern Luzon.

Rainy conditions across the country

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and the rest of Visayas due to the LPA. PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rainfall.

The Southwest Monsoon, on the other hand, will dampen the Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), SOCCSKSARGEN, MIMAROPA, and Antique, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms that may also trigger floods and landslides.

The rest of the country will experience generally fair weather, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms. However, severe thunderstorms could still lead to flash floods or landslides.

Wind and sea conditions

Moderate winds will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon, blowing from east to northeast, with coastal waters expected to be moderate at 1.2 to 1.8 meters. Similar conditions are expected in the eastern section of Southern Luzon, where winds will blow from southeast to northeast.

For the rest of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, light to moderate winds from southwest to northwest or west will prevail, with slight to moderate seas ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters.

Temperature and astronomical data

The highest temperature recorded today was 29.0°C at 11 a.m., while the lowest was 23.8°C at 6 a.m.
