14 areas under Signal No. 1 as Nando intensifies
Typhoon Nando continued to intensify on Saturday afternoon, prompting PAGASA to raise Signal No. 1 over 14 areas in Luzon.

- the northern and central portions of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao, Baler)
- the northern and central portions of Catanduanes (Pandan, Caramoran, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, Viga, Gigmoto, San Miguel, Baras)
At 4 p.m., the center of Nando was located 770 km east of Echague, Isabela, with maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h and gustiness of up to 170 km/h.
It was moving northwestward at 10 km/h.

Nando, which is expected to reach a super typhoon category, may pass close or may make landfall over Batanes or Babuyan Islands between Monday (September 22) afternoon or evening. It may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Tuesday (September 23) morning.
In the next 24 hours, Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms while the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will affect the rest of the country.
"There is a high risk of life-threatening storm surge with peak heights exceeding 3.0 m within the next 72 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal localities of Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur," PAGASA said.
The Southwest Monsoon and the trough of Nando will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas:
Saturday: Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga
Sunday: Metro Manila, Central Luzon (areas not under wind signal), CALABARZON, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental.
Monday: Central Luzon (areas not under wind signal), Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, SOCCSKSARGEN, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental.
