Storm surge warning up in over 20 areas —PAGASA 


The state weather bureau PAGASA has issued a storm surge warning in various parts of the country, noting that a high risk of life-threatening storm surge may occur within the next 24 hours. 

In its 8 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said that there is a possibility of inundation from rising sea water along with high waves in the low-lying coastal communities in the provinces/municipalities of the following:

More than 3 meters

  • Dinagat Islands 
  • Eastern Samar
  • Leyte
  • Samar (Western Samar) 
  • Southern Leyte 
  • Surigao del Norte 

More than 2.1 to 3 meters 

  • Eastern Samar 
  • Southern Leyte 
  • Surigao del Norte 

More than 1 to 2 meters 

  • Agusan del Norte 
  • Aklan 
  • Antique 
  • Biliran 
  • Bohol
  • Camiguin 
  • Capiz 
  • Cebu 
  • Eastern Samar 
  • Guimaras
  • Iloilo 
  • Leyte 
  • Masbate 
  • Misamis Oriental 
  • Negros Occidental 
  • Negros Oriental 
  • Northern Samar 
  • Occidental Mindoro 
  • Oriental Mindoro 
  • Palawan 
  • Romblon 
  • Samar (Western Samar) 
  • Siquijor

PAGASA also recommended residents in the said areas to stay away from the coast or beach; cancel all marine activities; move to higher grounds away from the coast and storm surge-prone areas; and follow the latest updates. 

According to the 8 p.m. weather bulletin, eight areas in the Visayas and Mindanao are still under Signal No. 4 as Typhoon Tino intensified further while moving west-northwestward over the east of Dinagat Island. At 7 p.m., Tino was located 95 km Southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
