Wind signals lifted as Tino nears Vietnam

State weather bureau PAGASA lifted wind signals on Thursday afternoon as Typhoon Tino approached central Vietnam.

As of 4 p.m., Tino was located 525 km west northwest of Pag-asa Island, Kalayaan, Palawan (outside PAR), packing maximum sustained winds of 165 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 205 km/h.

Moving westward at 25 km/h, Tino, known internationally as Kalmaegi, is expected to hit central Vietnam on Thursday night.

However, Tino's trough will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Palawan and Tawi-Tawi.

Batanes and Cagayan will have cloudy skies and rains due to the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan), while the rest of the country will experience localized thunderstorms.

Rough seas will continue to prevail in Batanes and the Kalayaan Islands.

Fung-Wong

PAGASA is also monitoring Tropical Storm Fung-Wong, which will be called Uwan once it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday evening or Saturday.

Fung-Wong was spotted 1,660 km east of northeastern Mindanao as of 3 p.m. Thursday. It was almost stationary, carrying maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 90 km/h.

Fung-Wong is expected to make landfall in Northern or Central Luzon on Monday, November 10, and has the potential to become a super typhoon. —Sherylin Untalan/VBL, GMA Integrated News
