Storm surge warning up in Albay, Aurora, 9 other provinces due to Uwan


A storm surge warning of over three meters has been issued for several coastal areas in Albay, Aurora and nine other provinces due to Typhoon Uwan.

PAGASA, in its 2 a.m. advisory, said the following areas will experience an estimated storm surge height of more than three meters: 

  • Albay
  • Aurora
  • Cagayan
  • Camarines Norte
  • Camarines Sur
  • Catanduanes
  • Isabela
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • Quezon 
  • Sorsogon

"A high-risk of life-threatening storm surge may occur within the next 48 hours. There is a possibility of inundation from rising sea water along with high waves in the low-lying coastal communities in the said provinces/municipalities," PAGASA said.

Areas with an estimated storm surge height of 2 to 1.3 meters include:

  • Cagayan
  • Camarines Sur
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Northern Sama
  • Pangasinan
  • Quezon
  • Zambales

The following areas are seen to have a storm surge height of 1 to 2 meters:

  • Bataan
  • Batangas
  • Bulacan
  • Cagayan
  • Cavite
  • Eastern Samar
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Metro Manila
  • Pampanga
  • Dinagat Islands
  • Surigao del Norte

The public is advised to stay away from the coast or beach, cancel all marine activities, more to higher grounds away from the coast and storm surge-prone areas, and follow the the latest update from PAGASA.

"The public and the disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and precautionary measures," PAGASA said.

It added that the next storm surge information will be issued at 8 a.m. Saturday. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
