Uwan weakens into severe tropical storm

Tropical Cyclone Uwan has been downgraded from typhoon to severe tropical cyclone category outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), state weather bureau PAGASA said on Tuesday morning. 

“As of 8:00 a.m. today, 11 November 2025, Typhoon ‘Uwan’ (international name Fung-wong’) has weaken into a severe tropical storm and is still being monitored outside the PAR,” PAGASA said. 

“All are advised to monitor updates from DOST-PAGASA,” it added.

Uwan was last located 365 kilometers west of Calayan, Cagayan, packing winds of 110 km per hour (kph) and gusts of 135 kph. 

The severe tropical storm was moving north northwestward at 10 kph.

Rainfall outlook

Heavy rainfall outlook due to Uwan (50-100 mm) over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, and Abra.

"Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall," PAGASA reported.

Outside the areas under Wind Signals, Uwan will also bring occasionally gusty conditions reaching strong to gale-force strength over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds): Most of Luzon, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, and Northern Samar.

The weather bureau added that a Gale Warning is in effect over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboards of Central Luzon and Southern Luzon. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
