Uwan weakens into tropical depression

Tropical Storm Uwan has weakened into a tropical depression on Wednesday evening while over the sea east of southern Taiwan, the state weather bureau reported.

PAGASA said Uwan remains inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) located 190 kilometers northwest of Itbayat, Batanes as of 8 p.m. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 70 kilometers per hour.

Uwan is moving east northeastward at 20 kilometers per hour.

Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes.

State meteorologists warned that minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Signal Number.

Uwan traversed the southern portion of Taiwan and it is forecast to move generally northeastward towards southern Ryukyu Islands, said PAGASA.

“Due to unfavorable conditions, it will continue to weaken until it becomes a remnant low in the next 12 hours,” the state weather bureau said.
