Uwan maintains strength, moves over sea east of Taiwan

Tropical Depression Uwan maintains its strength while moving over the sea east of Taiwan, according to the Tropical Cyclone Bulletin posted by PAGASA early Thursday morning.

The center of Tropical Depression Uwan was estimated at 305 kilometers of North of Itbayat, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and moving northwestward at 25 km/h.

There are no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal raised in any part of the country.

However, mariners were advised to take precautionary measures as rough to moderate seas are expected over the seaboards of Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

The state weather bureau also reported that the outer rainbands of Uwan will bring occasionally gusty conditions reaching strong to gale-force strength over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

"UWAN will continue moving northeastward while over the sea while heading towards the southern portion of Ryukyu Islands. Due to unfavorable conditions, it will continue to weaken until it becomes a remnant low in the next 12 hours," the agency added. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
