Wilma slightly accelerates, 27 areas under Signal No. 1

Tropical Depression Wilma slightly accelerated while moving westward over the sea near Eastern Visayas, according to the state weather bureau PAGASA's 5 a.m. Saturday bulletin.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was hoisted over the following areas: 

LUZON

  • Sorsogon
  • Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands
  • Romblon
  • the southern portion of Oriental Mindoro (Bulalacao, Mansalay, Roxas, Bongabong)
  • the southern portion of Occidental Mindoro (Magsaysay, San Jose, Rizal, Calintaan)
  • the northernmost portion of Palawan (Araceli, Dumaran, El Nido, Taytay) including Cuyo, Calamian, and Cagayancillo Islands

VISAYAS

At 4 a.m., Wilma was spotted 70 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.

It was moving westward at 15 km/h and projected to make landfall over Eastern Visayas on Saturday.

"Afterwards, it will continue to traverse Visayas until tomorrow (December 7). It will then emerge over Sulu Sea and may pass over northern Palawan by Monday (December 8) morning," PAGASA said.

"Wilma will likely remain as a tropical depression throughout its passage over Visayas and Southern Luzon. Further intensification is possible once it emerges over the West Philippine Sea." — VBL, GMA Integrated News
