3 weather systems to bring rain to parts of PH on New Year
Several areas in the country are expected to experience cloudy skies and rain due to three weather systems on New Year’s Day, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Monday afternoon.
In its special weather outlook for New Year 2026, PAGASA said that on Wednesday, December 31, the shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Quezon and Camarines Norte.
The Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon, or amihan.
The rest of the Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Palawan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.
On Thursday, January 1, 2026, cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms will be observed over Aurora and Quezon due to the shear line.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will persist over the Ilocos Region, CAR, and Cagayan Valley due to the amihan.
The Bicol Region will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, while Metro Manila and the rest of the country will remain partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.
“Throughout the forecast period, moderate to strong northeasterly winds will prevail over Northern Luzon with moderate to rough seas,” PAGASA said.
“Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas,” it added.
PAGASA also said the weather outlook will be updated if there are significant changes in the weather pattern.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
