Moderate rains possible over Bicol on New Year's Day 2026
A shear line may bring moderate rains over the Bicol region on Thursday, January 1, New Year's Day 2026, according to PAGASA weather specialist Charmagne Varilla.
"Posible nga 'yan na sa buong Bicol region, maging sa buong Mimaropa bukas, sa pagsalubong po natin ng Bagong Taon, ay makararanas pa rin po ng mga katamtaman hanggang sa malalakas na pag-ulan," she said on Unang Balita.
(It is indeed possible that across the entire Bicol region, and even the whole of Mimaropa tomorrow, as we welcome the New Year, we may still experience moderate to heavy rainfall.)
Varilla said the shear line is caused by the convergence of the northeast monsoon and the easterlies.
Meanwhile, she said partly cloudy to cloudy skies were expected for the rest of the country.
"Generally fair weather. Pero andyan din po 'yung chances ng mga pulo-pulo at mga panandaliang pag-ulan," she said.
(Generally fair weather, but there are also chances of isolated and short-duration rains.)
For today, Varilla said Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur may experience rains while the easterlies may bring scattered rains over the Visayas, Palawan, and the rest of the Mimaropa. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
