Signal No. 1 up in eight areas due to Tropical Depression Ada 


Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is hoisted over eight areas as Tropical Depression Ada continues to move westward over the Philippine Sea east of Mindanao, the state weather bureau PAGASA said. 

According to the 11 p.m. weather bulletin, winds of 39 to 61 kilometers per hour may be expected in at least 36 hours, or intermittent rains may be expected within 36 hours in the following areas:

Luzon 

  • Sorsogon 
  • Southeastern portion of Albay (Rapu-Rapu, Manito, Legazpi City) 

Visayas 

  • Northern Samar 
  • Samar 
  • Eastern Samar 

Mindanao

  • Dinagat Islands
  • Surigao del Norte 
  • Surigao del Sur 

The center of Ada was last monitored 460 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, said PAGASA. 

The tropical depression is moving west westward at 20 kilometers per hour. Ada packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 55 kilometers per hour. 

PAGASA said that Ada will move generally northwestward over the next three days. It is forecast to pass close or make landfall over Eastern Visayas on Friday, January 16, or the early morning of Saturday, January 17. 

Ada will then pass close or make landfall over Catanduanes on Saturday or Sunday, January 18. Afterwards, it will turn generally northeastward over the sea East of Luzon, the state weather bureau added. 

PAGASA said that Ada is forecast to reach tropical storm category within the next 24 hours and will continue to gradually intensify over the Philippine Sea. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
