Signal No. 1 up in Catanduanes, Camarines Sur as Ada slightly weakens

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is hoisted over parts of Bicol Region as Tropical Storm Ada slightly weakens while hovering northeastward over the sea northeast of Catanduanes, PAGASA said Sunday afternoon.

According to the 5 p.m. weather bulletin, Signal No. 1 is up in the following areas in Luzon:

  • Catanduanes
  • Northeastern portion of Camarines Sur (Garchitorena, Lagonoy, Presentacion, Caramoan, San Jose, Siruma, Tinambac)

PAGASA said the center of Ada was last monitored 205 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes. It packs maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kilometers per hour.

The state weather bureau added that Ada is forecast to move generally northeastward until Monday, January 19. But it noted that changes in forecast track in the upcoming bulletins are possible.

In the 24-hour weather forecast issued at 4 p.m., Ada is predicted to bring rains with gusty winds over Catanduanes and Camarines Sur.

The tropical storm is also expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Northern Samar, and the rest of Bicol Region.

Further, PAGASA said that Ada is expected to remain as a tropical storm while moving over the sea east of Luzon. It is forecast to weaken into a tropical depression either in the afternoon or evening of Tuesday, January 20, before further weakening into a low pressure area by Wednesday, January 21 due to the surge of the northeast monsoon. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
