Record-low temperature logged in Tanay, Rizal this Amihan season

State weather bureau, PAGASA, on Thursday logged record-low temperatures in Tanay, Rizal and Metro Manila during the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) season.

According to Raffy Tima’s Thursday report on “24 Oras,” 17.2°C was recorded in Tanay, Rizal while 19.6°C was recorded in Science Garden, Quezon City.

Low temperatures were also recorded in the following areas:

San Ildefonso, Bulacan -18.6°C

Baguio City - 11°C

La Trinidad, Benguet - 12°C

Basco, Batanes - 15.8°C

According to PAGASA, Amihan will affect the country's temperature until February.

It may still intensify, and temperatures could further drop in the coming weeks.

“Yung current surge ng Northeast Monsoon magtatagal pa naman po yan hanggang sa araw na Lunes and then magkakaroon tayo ng panibagong surge ulit later next week,” PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

(The current surge of Amihan will last until Monday, and then there will be another surge next week.)

According to PAGASA, intermittent cool temperatures will be felt until February due to thick snow cover and an intensified high-pressure area over Siberia and China, which is bringing cold air toward the Philippines. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BAP, GMA Integrated News
