LPA formerly Basyang has dissipated, PAGASA says
The low pressure area formerly Tropical Depression Basyang (international name: Penha) dissipated on Saturday morning, PAGASA said.
It dissipated as of 8 a.m., the state weather bureau said.
"Meanwhile, No other Low Pressure Areas (LPA) are being monitored for Tropical Cyclone Formation," PAGASA said.
"All are advised to monitor updates from DOST-PAGASA," it added.
Basyang, which became a tropical storm, brought heavy rains and caused flooding in many areas as it hit Caraga and parts of Visayas from Thursday night to Friday.
Eight people were reported to have died due to the effects of Basyang, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Saturday.
Four of the fatalities died in a landslide in Cagayan de Oro City.
The other fatalities were reported in Iligan City (three) and Agusan del Norte (one due to drowning).
The reports are "all for validation," OCD deputy spokesperson Diego Agustin Mariano told reporters in a message.
Basyang had five landfalls and weakened into a tropical depression before being downgraded into an LPA early Saturday. —KG, GMA Integrated News
