A low-pressure area being monitored outside the country has intensified into a tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tuesday.

In its 10 a.m. tropical cyclone formation outlook, PAGASA said the system developed into a tropical depression around 8 a.m. on March 10 while still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

As of 8 a.m., the tropical depression was located about 1,305 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 55 kph.

It was moving north-northeast at 10 kph, the state weather bureau added.

PAGASA said the system remains outside PAR but urged the public to continue monitoring official weather updates.

"As of 8:00 a.m. today, 10 March 2026, the Low Pressure Area (LPA 03a) being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has developed into a Tropical Depression," PAGASA said.

The agency advised the public to stay updated through its official bulletins as the disturbance continues to move over the Philippine Sea.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
