Trough of TS Nuri to affect eastern Mindanao

PAGASA is monitoring a tropical storm outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), which will continue to bring rains over parts of eastern Mindanao.

According to PAGASA’s daily weather forecast on Wednesday afternoon, Tropical Storm Nuri was seen 1,265 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas as of 3 p.m.

Moving eastward slowly, the tropical storm had maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h and gustiness of up to 80 km/h.

Benison Estareja, a PAGASA weather specialist, said that Nuri had no indications of entering the PAR or having an impact on the country and would keep moving farther away.

However, Nuri's trough is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental.

The rest of Mindanao, Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) will cause cloudy skies with light rains over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over the rest of the country.

12 hours of nighttime in Metro Manila

Meanwhile, Luzon and the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao will have moderate to strong winds with moderate to rough waters.

The rest of the country may observe light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas.

Metro Manila will get 12 hours of darkness on Wednesday ahead of the vernal equinox, which occurs later this month when day and night are roughly equal in length.

Sunset is expected at 6:06 p.m. Wednesday. Sunrise is scheduled for 6:06 a.m. Thursday. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
