Cloudy skies and rain are expected to persist in several areas in Luzon and the Visayas over the next 24 hours due to the northeast monsoon or amihan, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Sunday afternoon.

In its 4 p.m. weather forecast, the state weather bureau said the weather system will affect the Bicol Region, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, the Visayas, as well as parts of Northern Mindanao and Caraga.

However, PAGASA said the expected rains are generally light and are not likely to have a significant impact on the affected areas.

Meanwhile, localized thunderstorms may bring partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms across the rest of Mindanao.

PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.

State meteorologists also said winds will be moderate to strong, with coastal waters ranging from moderate to rough in Luzon, the Visayas, and the eastern section of Mindanao.

The rest of Mindanao will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters.

Sunrise in Metro Manila on Monday will be at 6:03 a.m.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
