The cold weather brought about by the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) may cease before the end of March, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

In Mariz Umali’s Tuesday report on “24 Oras,” Chris Perez, PAGASA assistant weather services chief, said it is normal to feel the effects of the Amihan in March.

“Posible naman na magtapos ito bago po matapos ang buwan ng Marso. So likely, it’s either the last week of March ay mag-declare na po tayo ng end of the Amihan season sa ating bansa,” said Perez.

(It is possible that this will end before the end of March. So it's likely that we will declare the end of the Amihan season by the last week of March.)

“Normally naman kung titingnan po natin yung mga historical data natin, ang Amihan po natin is either month of February or month of March na-te-terminate. In the case of the current Amihan kasi… ito nga mid-March na tayo, may bugso pa rin. So likely, baka sa last week ng March magsimula yung gradual dry season. Yung talagang patungo na tayo sa mainit at maalinsangan na panahon,” Perez said.

(Normally, if we look at our historical data, the Amihan is either terminated in February or March. This year, we can still feel the Amihan this month. So, the gradual dry season will be felt in the last week of March, when we are really heading towards the hot and humid weather.)
