Towns in Iloilo, Eastern Samar log ‘danger’ level heat index on Wednesday, March 25 

Two areas in the Visayas experienced a heat index on “danger” level on Wednesday, March 25, the state weather bureau PAGASA said. 

According to PAGASA’s highest computed 5-day heat index as of 5 p.m., Dumangas, Iloilo experienced a heat index of 44°C, while Borongan in Eastern Samar experienced a 42 °C heat index. 

A heat index of 42 °C to 51°C is considered to be under “danger” level. Meanwhile, a heat index beyond 52°C is categorized as “extreme danger.” 

Meanwhile, the following areas may experience a heat index of between 33°C to 41 °C (extreme caution) on Thursday, March 26:

The state weather bureau on March 23 announced the end of the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) season, which means the start of the dry season. 

PAGASA also issued an "El Niño Watch" in preparation for this year’s dry season. 

At the moment, El Niño has a 62% chance of developing in the months of June-July-August and has at least an 83% chance of lasting until the end of 2026. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
