2 areas to face ‘danger level’ heat index on April 7 — PAGASA
A “danger level” heat index is expected in two areas in the country on Tuesday, April 7, PAGASA said.
Based on its two-day forecast, the synoptic stations in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro and Dumangas, Iloilo are expected to record a heat index of 42°C.
PAGASA classifies heat index levels between 42°C and 51°C under the “danger” category, which poses a risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
On March 23, PAGASA announced the termination of the northeast monsoon (Amihan) season, signaling the start of the dry season.
The public is advised to take precautionary measures to minimize heat stress, including staying hydrated and drinking plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
PAGASA explained that the heat index reflects how hot it actually feels to the human body by combining air temperature and relative humidity.
High humidity slows the evaporation of sweat, making it harder for the body to cool down.
When temperatures are too high, the body may struggle to regulate its internal temperature, leading to increased body heat and strain on vital organs such as the heart and kidneys.
If not addressed, this can result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke.—MCG, GMA News
