Heat index in 3 areas reaches ‘danger’ level on April 7
Three areas in the country experienced a “danger” level heat index, or between 42°C and 51°C, on Tuesday, April 7, the state weather bureau PAGASA said.
Based on the 5-day computed heat index, Sangley Point in Cavite City recorded 43°C, while Cotabato City in Maguindanao and Butuan City in Agusan del Norte both recorded 42°C.
Meanwhile, several areas experienced heat index levels under “extreme caution,” or between 33°C and 41°C:
- Itbayat, Batanes — 32°C
- Basco (Radar), Batanes — 31°C
- Tanay, Rizal — 32°C
PAGASA also forecast that on Wednesday, April 8, the following areas may reach “danger” level heat index:
- Cotabato City, Maguindanao — 42°C
- Butuan City, Agusan del Norte — 42°C
Heat index reflects how hot it actually feels to the human body by combining air temperature and relative humidity. High humidity slows the evaporation of sweat, making it harder for the body to cool down.—MCG, GMA News
