22 areas to endure ‘danger’ level heat index on May 8, 2026

A “danger” level heat index is expected in 22 areas on Friday, May 8, PAGASA said in its forecast.

According to the state weather bureau’s 5 p.m. bulletin on Thursday, the synoptic stations in the following areas will measure a heat index between 42°C and 45°C:

45°C

Aparri, Cagayan

44°C

Dagupan, Pangasinan

MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan

43°C

Sinait, Ilocos Sur

Laoag City, Ilocos Norte

San Jose, Occidental Mindoro

Cuyo, Palawan

Borongan, Eastern Samar

42°C

Bacnotan, La Union

PAGASA classifies heat indices between 42°C and 51°C under the danger category. These may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

When temperatures are too high, the body struggles to regulate its internal temperature, which can lead to a rise in body heat and strain on vital organs such as the heart and kidneys. If not addressed, it may result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Authorities recommend the following precautions:

-Drink plenty of water, even if not thirsty

-Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially at midday

-Use umbrellas, hats, or light clothing

-Stay in shaded or well-ventilated areas

-Learn basic first aid for heat-related emergencies
