Caloy slightly decelerates over the sea east of Northeastern Mindanao
Tropical Storm Caloy (international name: Hagupit) slightly decelerated early Sunday while moving over the sea east of Northeastern Mindanao, PAGASA said.
At 4 a.m., the center of Caloy was estimated to be located at 910 km east of Northeastern Mindanao.
It has maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, and with gustiness of up to 80 km/h, and central pressure of 1002 hPa.
Caloy is moving west northwestward at 15 km/h.
From its center, strong to gale-force winds are extending outwards up to 320 km from the center.
"CALOY is unlikely to directly affect the country throughout the forecast period," PAGASA said.
Coastal waters will be moderate over:
- the eastern seaboards of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands; the seaboards of Batanes; the western seaboard of Babuyan Islands; the northwestern seaboard of Ilocos Norte: Up to 2.5 meters
- the remaining seaboards of Ilocos Norte and Babuyan Islands; the eastern seaboards of Cagayan, Isabela, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental; the northern seaboards of Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Northern Samar: Up to 2 meters
"Mariners of montorbancas and similarly vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions," PAGASA said.
The state weather bureau said Caloy is seen to continue in the west northwestward direction and remain over the Philippine Sea, far from the landmass.
Caloy is forecast to begin weakening on Sunday afternoon or evening, and become a tropical depression between Sunday afternoon and evening.
On Monday, Caloy is expected to further weaken into a low pressure area.
PAGASA advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned to take the necessary measures to protect life and property.
"Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials," it said.
PAGASA will issue the next tropical cyclone bulletin at 11 a.m. —KG, GMA News
