Trough of Tropical Storm Mekkhala, 2 other weather systems to trigger rains
The eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao will experience rains and thunderstorms on Sunday due to the trough of Tropical Storm Mekkhala, PAGASA said in its 4 p.m. Saturday weather bulletin.
The trough is forecast to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Southern Leyte, Caraga, and the Davao Region.
As of 3 p.m., the tropical cyclone was located 1,480 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gusts of up to 105 km/h. It was moving westward at 15 km/h.
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, will bring similar weather conditions over the Zamboanga Peninsula, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), SOCCSKSARGEN, and Lanao del Norte.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are also expected over Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA warned that areas affected by the trough, Habagat, and localized thunderstorms may experience flash floods or landslides.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters are expected across the country. Wave heights may reach 0.6 to 1.8 meters in the Visayas and eastern Mindanao, and 0.6 to 1.2 meters in Luzon and the rest of Mindanao.
