Cloudy skies, rains to persist over Palawan, Visayas, Mindanao due to Habagat

The Southwest Monsoon or Habagat is affecting Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao and will bring cloudy skies and scattered rains and thunderstorms to these areas on Monday, the state weather bureau said.

In its 4 a.m. public weather forecast, PAGASA said this is as the center of Typhoon Francisco was spotted 725 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan as of 3 a.m.

It is packing maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h near the center with gustiness of up to 170 km/h, while moving west northwestward at 30 km/h.

The state weather bureau said the typhoon is unlikely to affect the country today.

A low pressure area (LPA 06c) within the Philippine monitoring domain has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, PAGASA added.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

The state weather bureau warned of flash floods or landslides in the above-mentioned areas during moderate to heavy rains or severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the eastern section of Luzon will have moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal water conditions.

Visayas, Mindanao, Palawan, and the rest of Luzon will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate waters.
