Typhoon Francisco to drench Northern, Central Luzon; another storm eyed outside PAR
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday said Typhoon Francisco is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms over parts of Central and Northern Luzon on June 24, even as it continues to monitor Tropical Storm Higos outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
In its 4 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the center of the eye of Typhoon Typhoon Francisco was estimated at 340 kilometers east of Calayan, with maximum sustained winds of 175 kph and gusts of up to 215 kph.
Forecast weather conditions
Francisco is expected to bring rain and gusty winds over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands, while cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may affect Aurora, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, and the rest of the Cagayan Valley.
PAGASA warned that areas affected by Francisco may face flooding and landslides, with a minimal to minor threat to life and property from strong winds.
The southwest monsoon, or habagat, is also expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Quezon City and the rest of Metro Manila, the rest of Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, the Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte,
The rest of the Visayas and Mindanao may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms, while the rest of Luzon may see localized thunderstorms.
Wind, sea conditions
Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are expected over the northern and eastern sections of Northern Luzon, with wave heights ranging from 1.5 to 4 meters.
Meanwhile, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are expected in the rest of the country, with wave heights of 0.6 to 2.5 meters in Central Luzon and the rest of Northern Luzon, and 0.6 to 2.1 meters in the rest of the country.
The highest temperature recorded at PAGASA’s Science Garden station in Quezon City on Tuesday was 32.6°C at 2 p.m., while the lowest was 25.0°C at 4 a.m.
