LPA trough to bring rains over parts of Visayas, Mindanao

The trough of a low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) will bring cloudy skies and rains over parts of Visayas and Mindanao, the state weather bureau PAGASA said on Thursday afternoon.

Based on PAGASA’s 4 p.m. weather forecast, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and the Davao Region within the next 24 hours due to the LPA’s trough.

Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies. Localized thunderstorms are expected in other parts of the country.

As of 3 p.m., the LPA was located 1,455 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas.

PAGASA weather specialist John Manalo said the LPA will remain outside the PAR before dissipating over the weekend.

“Quasi-stationary means the LPA is barely moving, which is why it will remain outside the PAR until it eventually dissipates this weekend,” Manalo said.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters are expected across the country.
