Signal No. 1 raised over parts of Luzon as Tropical Depression Luis weakens

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised over parts of Luzon as Tropical Depression Luis slightly weakened while moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea east of Isabela, PAGASA said in its 11 a.m. bulletin Monday.

As of 10 a.m., Luis was estimated to be located at 165 km east of Echague, Isabela, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gusts up to 55 kph.

Due to the tropical depression, TCWS No. 1 has been raised over the following areas in Luzon:

PAGASA advised all areas flagged with wind threat to be on alert for possible minimal to minor impacts from strong winds.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat and the periphery of Luis are expected to bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas on August 3 and 4: Most of Luzon and Visayas, Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Camiguin, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental.

PAGASA said Tropical Depression Luis will move generally northwestward and may make landfall or pass close to Northern Luzon on the evening of August 3 or early morning of August 4.

Effects

Classes for Monday, August 3, 2026 have been suspended in some areas due to the effects of Luis.

Slow traffic was reported in Quezon City and some passengers were stranded in different ports in provinces on Monday morning due to the effects of the tropical depression. —KG, GMA News
