Luzon, Visayas to have monsoon rains on Sunday — PAGASA

The southwest monsoon or Habagat is expected to affect Luzon and the Visayas on Sunday, August 9, 2026, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

According to the PAGASA bulletin issued 4 p.m. Saturday, the Habagat is forecast to bring monsoon rains over Ilocos Sur, La Union, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, and Mindoro Occidental.

It is also expected to bring occasional rains over Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro Oriental, and Antique.

The southwest monsoon is also expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Zambonga Peninsula, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

Localized thunderstorms are forecast to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms in the rest of Mindanao.

As of 3 p.m., Typhoon Dolphin was estimated outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 825 km northeast of extreme northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph and gusts up to 185 kph.

The trough of Typhoon Dolphin is forecast to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.

Aside from Dolphin, PAGASA is also monitoring a Tropical Depression outside PAR. As of 3 p.m., it was spotted at 3,055 kms east of extreme northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gusts up to 55 kph.

Meanwhile, as of 2 p.m., another low pressure area was being monitored outside PAR at 1,760 kms east of extreme northern Luzon. The state weather bureau said the LPA has a "high" chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

PAGASA advised the public to be on alert for possible flash floods or landslides during heavy rains or severe thunderstorms.

Strong to gale-force winds and rough to very rough coastal waters are expected in extreme northern Luzon, with waves running from 2.6 meters to 4.5 meters.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are expected in the rest of the country, with waves running from 1.2 meters to 3.0 meters in Visayas and Mindanao, and 1.5 meters to 3.5 meters in the rest of Luzon.

At the PAGASA Science Garden weather station in Diliman, Quezon City, the highest temperature recorded on Saturday reached 26.6 degrees Celsius at 8 a.m., while the lowest temperature was logged at 24.8 degrees Celsius at 2 a.m.
