Flooding affects 2.4 million families in 10 regions —OCD

Widespread flooding due to the heavy rainfall from the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and recent storms has affected at least 2.4 million families across 10 regions in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the Office of Civil Defense said.

In a statement, the OCD said that as of 6 p.m. Sunday the confirmed death toll from the calamities remains at 32, its tally since Saturday. The number of injured and missing remain at 19 and three respectively.

The population affected by the flooding consists of 2.4 million families or 8.4 million individuals in the following regions across the country:

• CAR (Cordillera Administrative Region)
• I (Ilocos Region)
• II (Cagayan valley)
• III (Central Luzon)
• IV-A (CALABARZON)
• IV-B (MIMAROPA)
• V (Bicol)
• VI (Western Visayas)
• IX (Zamboanga Peninsula)
• NCR (Metro Manila)

In those regions, 35,500 families made up of 122,500 individuals are staying at 1,115 evacuation centers, it added.

PAGASA on Sunday also issued orange and yellow rainfall warnings over several areas in Luzon, a downgrade from earlier red rainfall warnings:

Tarlac has declared a state of calamity, amid the collapse of two bridges in recent days, bringing the tally of provincial and local governments that have declared a state of calamity to a total of 118.

PAGASA also said in its 11 a.m. video briefing on Sunday that while Tropical Depression Pilandok will have no direct effect on the Philippines, it continues to intensify the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat even as Pilandok remains far from the Philippine landmass.

As of 4 p.m., Pilandok was located at 1,180 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility and is moving northwestward slowly over the sea, PAGASA said in its 5 p.m. bulletin. — BM, GMA News
