Tarlac province declares state of calamity

The provincial government of Tarlac has declared a state of calamity amid widespread flooding that has displaced thousands of residents and damaged at least two bridges.

In Resolution No. 416-2026, Governor Christian Yap said the widespread flooding has rendered major thoroughfares in the province "impassable"; caused damage to agricultural crops and properties, and "severely" affected communities.

The resolution added that Tarlac's Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) recommended the declaration of a state of calamity "considering...the need for immediate, coordinated, and sustained relief, response, recovery and rehabilitation measures throughout the province."

On Friday evening, part of the Ninoy Aquino Bridge in San Isidro, Tarlac City collapsed. The following night, the middle of Agana Bridge in Tarlac City gave way, plunging an SUV into the river. One passenger has been rescued, while four others remain missing.

PAGASA expects more monsoon rains to drench the area, including Tarlac, through Monday evening. It has raised a Red Rainfall Warning—meaning the possibility of serious flooding in flood-prone areas—over Bamban, Capas, Camiling, Mayantoc, San Clemente, San Jose, and Santa Ignacia in Tarlac. — BM, GMA News
