PAGASA: Heavy rains expected throughout the long weekend

The rainy weather is expected to prevail over some parts of the country throughout the weekend, PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said Friday.

“Ine-expect pa rin natin na throughout this long weekend ay meron pa rin tayong inaasahan na malalakas na ulan,” he said on Super Radyo dzBB.

(We are still expecting heavy rains throughout this long weekend.)

Earlier, a red rainfall warning was raised over parts Zambales and Bataan due to the effects of Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.

Meanwhile, a low pressure area (LPA) has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to Estareja.

He said there is a medium chance for the LPA to develop into a tropical cyclone, which will be called Pilandok.

The LPA is heading towards Taiwan and is less likely to make landfall.

Despite this, Estareja said that it may still affect Hagabat.

“Kasalukuyan and hanggang sa maging bagyo siya is papalakasin po nito ang Southwest Monsoon,” he said.

According to Estareja, the Habagat will last until September.

“First half of September meron pa rin po tayong Southwest Monsoon and then hihina ito by the latter part of the month. May mga ine-expect pa rin po kasi tayo na mga bagyo tapos by the rest of BER months mas tumataas ‘yung chance po na nag la-landfall ang mga bagyo,” he said.
