A one-year-old boy drowned when the boat he and his family were riding capsized in the river in Bula, Camarines Sur.

Investigation showed that the family had come from a fiesta in the neighboring barangay when the current reportedly became strong as they were traversing the river to head home to Barangay Polpog. It was nighttime at that time.

On board the banca were the boy, his 10-year-old sibling, and the parents.

The boy’s father who was steering the boat was reportedly drunk and the boat eventually capsized. The boy reportedly fell from his mother’s arms.

"Nagkataon po kang dahil sa araaldaw na kauuran, nagkusog si current kan tubig na naging kawsa kan paglubog kan bangka," PCPL. Manny Garfin Ama, Assistant Police Community Affairs and Development (PCAD) Police Non-Commissioned Officer (PNCO) and Public Information Officer (PIO) of Bula Municipal Police Station (MPS), said.

Ang kwento po kaitong ama tapos si ina kadtong biktima, ang naagapan lang po is si aking 10 years old... nabiliwan po itong one year old na aki," Ama added.

The family reportedly informed authorities about what happened only in the morning.

Personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Bula found the body of the boy under water lilies near the area where the boat sank.
