The military has rescued up to 35 dogs at the site where houses of informal settlers were demolished inside the Camp Evangelista Military Reservation in Patag, Cagayan de Oro.
Military troops rescued the dogs during a clearing operation following the week-long demolition from June 18 to 24, 2024.
The dogs, reportedly distressed, were rescued by members of the 4th Installation Management Battalion in coordination with the City Veterinary Office and a non-government organization.
“We are dedicated to safeguarding not only our people but also these needy pet animals, offering them a second chance of life. Our goal is to provide relief to the vulnerable pet animals displaced and abandoned by the owners and informal settlers after the demolition,” 4th Infantry Division Commander, Major General Jose Maria Cuerpo II, said.
“Rescued pet animals will receive immediate medical attention, nourishment, and new homes to ensure their safety and well-being,” Cuerpo added.
