Cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) have been confirmed in three barangays in Davao Occidental.

In an advisory released on Wednesday, August 8, 2024, the provincial government said the barangays affected are San Agustin and Basiawan in Sta. Maria town and Bito in the municipality of Malita.

The provincial government said some pigs have tested positive for ASF, based on results of the blood sampling conducted by the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL).

Due to the presence of ASF in the said areas, the provincial government will implement protocols to prevent the spread of ASF.

Among the measures the province will undertake include “test and destroy” protocol within the 500-meter radius of the ASF case, active surveillance within the quarantine zone, and cleaning and disinfecting of the affected areas.

Movement and transportation of swine in the affected areas will also be restricted and stricter biosecurity measures will be implemented.

“Currently, the utmost priority of the province and the municipalities is the eradication of the ASF. This could be sooner accomplished with everyone’s support and cooperation,” the advisory said.
