Two jewelry shops in downtown Cebu City near the Carbon Public Market were robbed at past 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024.
At least six robbers carted away pieces of jewelry worth a total of P14 million from the two stores.
One store shared a copy of the CCTV footage which showed the robbers brandishing guns and taking the items from the glass casing, while customers at that time were ordered to lie face down on the floor.
It was learned that the robbers rode in a getaway vehicle.
Police Colonel Antonietto Cañete, Cebu City Police Office chief, said that based on the said CCTV footage, they were able to identify one of the robbers.
“Initially may nakitang dalawa na nasa labas, dalawa ang pumasok, may na-identify kami na isa,” Col. Cañete said.
He has ordered a hot pursuit operation to determine the identities of the robbers.
Cañete pointed out that one shop has no security guard, while the guard in the other store left behind his gun as he was out to have lunch.
Acting Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia has given the police 48 hours to solve the crime.
