A farmer in Libona, Bukidnon has decided to give away nearly a ton of his harvest of bell pepper and squash by leaving them by the road for people to take.

Harvest has been abundant and buying price is low but the buyer reportedly refused to purchase all of the vegetables because the latter’s warehouse could not store everything, and there is no scheduled sea trip to transport them to Manila, at least, as of this writing.

“Kaso walay biyahe, madaot ra siya paingon mao gipa backload sa bodega kay kung sa bodega to malata ra man,” said Junjun Acla who works for the farmer.

Acla said the buying price of squash is only P6 per kilo while that of bell peppers is only P15 per kilo.

Selling the vegetables around would reportedly be impractical as earnings will not be enough to cover for transport and labor cost.

The Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) of the Department of Agriculture-Northern Mindanao (DA-10) has learned of the situation but is yet to issue a statement, as of this writing.
