Vice President Sara Duterte visited the City of Danao in north Cebu Province to look for the exact location of the tomb of a kin and to thank personally pro-Duterte groups and individuals.

She arrived at 8 a.m. at the Santo Tomas de Villanueva Parish Church, in an unannounced visit, where she was met by local officials on April 22, 2025. She went inside the church to pray. There was an ongoing baccalaureate Mass; she proceeded to the pew at the back row.

Outside the church, she had a talk with the priest on her family's plan to offer a Holy Mass for the eternal repose of deceased members of the family.

Prior to her visit at the church, she was at the cemetery to visit tombs of relatives. She said they have been looking for quite a long time the tomb of her great grandfather.

“Si Facundo Duterte, siya ang lolo ng dating Presidente Duterte, hanggang ngayon… hindi pa namin mahanap… everytime napadaan ako sa Danao, do’n na muna sa relatives in the hope na baka nando’n ang buto somewhere,” Duterte said.

Further, she said, her visit is also to thank groups and individuals who have demonstrated staunch support for former President Rodrigo Duterte who is incarcerated in The Hague, Netherlands for alleged crimes against humanity.

“Hindi man isa-isa yung pasalamat, gusto ko makita nila na bumisita, dumaan kami para ipakita din sa kanila, napakalaki ng tulong ng kanilang dasal, sigurado ako nagpapalakas ng loob kay Pangulong Duterte,” she added.

Furthermore, the Vice President visited the temporary Danao City Public Market where she was met warmly by vendors eager for a selfie opportunity with her.

Duterte was seen buying certain goods from the vendors but giving the items away to others in the crowd.

When sought for comment on an apparent rise in her approval rating, based on a recent survey, Duterte said she is surprised at the trust despite aspersions cast on her.

“Nagulat ako nang makita ang numbers ng pagtitiwala ng mga tao sa akin dahil sa sobrang daming lumabas na paninira kung saan,” Duterte said.
